Nectar
A downloadable game
Nectar
ZX Spectrum 48k.
Fast paced machine code arcade game for the ZX Spectrum.
Sim1 the drone is having a bad day. An order for the new rocket fuel has come in and it is up to Sim1 to collect enough for a consignment to be sent of for sales. But it is never that simple, in fact it is quite a challenge for everyday work.
Some years ago Planet T1y88 was discovered and on it a unique plant grows, whose nectar is quite volatile. Enough so that it can be used as rocket fuel on the XB1 multi stage ground to space rocket. The corporations moved in and set up farms to grow the plant and use drones to collect the nectar for processing. However T1y88 has local life, quite aggressive local life. These bio-energy beings seem to be attracted to anything that moves with dangerous results. So the drones are now equipped with firepower that is able to use the nectar and shoot pulses in order to keep the locals at bay, but only if you collect the nectar first.
However depending on the flower colour, the nectar has slightly different properties and do not always destroy a life-form. So get to work Sim1, collect that nectar, protect your self and fill those bottles up with the product.
Keyboard and joystick options available.
99.9% Machine Code.
Version 0.5 now includes new learner mode:
- Simpler first level
- No loss of stored nectar when a life is lost

Congratulations! A very fun proposal. A very fluid movement and a challenge for our fingers.
Thank you. Glad you enjoyed it, you did really well on that last go.
I played your game today on my Speccy Next. Wow, harder than nails but I enjoyed it. Never did fill that beaker with the juice BUT did swear enough to fill my Cussin Jar! Cool game... TJ
Thanks for the kind words. But oh man, I was laughing myself silly watching your reactions and words when playing my game. What a great video and I'm totally hooked man. I hope it didn't frustrate you too much. It is a bit hard core and I've only had some feedback on how hard it is. I have been thinking that maybe losing the nectar between lives is a bit harsh. I'm meant to be working on my next project but every time I get some feedback it gives me more ideas to 'perfect' the game. How about a 'learners' mode? Maybe start with less baddies (I think also level 2 might be easier than level 1).
some answers to your questions:
The shots come out in the direction you last moved / are moving.
The bonus letters appear if you shoot 4 baddies.
Cheers

Yeh, allowing the "beaker" as I called it full (or only slowly draining if you die and not fully going away) would be nice. haha. It all going made me swear. haha. Or less nasties going after you so you can get through level 1 and onto 2, etc... Either way, was a fun one. I expect these sorts of hard games now with Speccy. haha.
Hi TJ,
thanks to your great feedback (and others) I've put together a simple learners mode into a new release. Feel free to take a look and let me know what you think.
Cheers

Good game and fun to play, thank you. I also added it to my New Spectrum ZX Games from March 2024 -video too.
Fantastic. I shall enjoy a watch tonight. Cheers
Nice game !
Nice game!

Let see what i can do.
love the game, do you have a tap file?
There is a temp. .tap for available. This has no loading screen
Funny game. It has some elements from the 1983 Ultimate classic PSSST. Keep up the good work!
Thanks. Ultimate was the influence. How you enjoy it
It's a nice one. Reminds me of another era, about 40 years ago when I got my first ZX Spectrum.
